Plant Care Tips
Plant Care Tips
I want to put in a disclaimer here. I am a happy, enthusiastic gardener, and I have quite a few growing years under my belt. But I am not an expert. There is much I still need to learn.
That being said, I thought it would be a good idea to put my thoughts down about plant care.
If you purchase a plant from me, check this page for care advice.
I will add to this page as I go.
Lettuce:
In hot summer weather, grow lettuce in a spot that gets some shade. Morning sun only is a good idea in very hot climates. You may also like to place shade cloth over your leafy greens.
Water deeply in hot weather. I also spritz my lettuce once a day with a spray bottle.
Snails and slugs love lettuce. Organic gardening is preferred and safer, so pick them off, or use natural methods like bran or coffee grounds to keep pests at bay. These are sprinkled around the base of the plants.
Lettuce have shallow root systems. They can grow in shallower containers, but make sure they don't dry out. Mulching prevents the soil from drying out.
In winter, (lettuce can be grown year round in more moderate climates,) your fight will be more against snails.
It's a good idea to use compost as a feed mulch, or use a plant food per manufacturer's instructions.

Rose Succulents
I love these pretty succulents. I have some growing in the ground, but find that they do really well in pots.
Another thing about them, is that they seem to prefer some shade, and don't do as well in the hottest parts of my garden.
They can take quite a bit of water, but obviously, over-watering will be a problem. I give my succulents an occasional feed.
Taking cuttings and propagation are easy, so go ahead. These plants make an attractive gift.

Spring Onions
What I know so far:
They are pretty easy to grow. Spring onions are great in the kitchen. Use instead of onions when you run out, add to egg dishes, especially omelets, use in savoury dishes and as a garnish.
They are quite hardy and help to repel pests. I feed mine and give them deep waterings
I have also been able to successfully transplant them.

Swiss Chard
A very hardy and easy plant.
Swiss chard is very much like spinach.
When happy, it grows prolifically, and will just keep producing more leaves if you keep harvesting.
It is however, a very thirsty plant, and loves deep waterings. It will be very happy if you spray its leaves.
In hotter weather, it will be more content with afternoon shade, and can grow in a shady area.
Don't forget to feed for healthy growth.
Remember, snails love leafy greens too!
